BOOKSTREET

The more you read, the more you know. The more you know, the more you grow. The more you grow, the more you show.

Bookstreet

Book Street was launched in August 2016. It is an initiative created by a small group of committed students to build a mobile library that will bring the joy of reading books and infinite learning to any curious child.

Libraries are very rare in Cambodia, and often books are not available in schools either.

Because of this group’s continuous enthusiasm and passion to make books accessible to children, they drive their mobile library every weekend to the city of Angkor Wat. The children - who are usually busying working - then have the opportunity to come, read for a few hours and learn something new. The volunteers teach the little ones how to read, while others enjoy the independence of reading by themselves or listen to a story read aloud. Older students find the range of books (including textbooks and English books) very attractive.

The vision of Book Street is:
We would like to see children in the community live a better life by being well-educated, having a love for study, and maintaining good health, in order to be a part of the country’s development as a nation.
Our mission is to teach children how to read, write and establish a reading habit. We want to offer the children in villages the chance for a better life by teaching them the need and desire of learning. It is the only way we can break the poverty circle and help build a better Cambodia.
